Political discord has been at a peak over these past few years. The Republicans and Democrats, the right and left, are all at each other’s throats. But I believe the reality is not so bleak. Except for a few highly vocal demagogues, most Americans see those on the other side of the aisle as political opponents, in the same sense as a sports team would have an opponent on game day. Of course, this is very different from the concept of an “enemy.”
There is only one true enemy of the political right and the conservative movement: inertia. That’s right, getting off the couch is the single greatest obstacle to our political success. It is what keeps the Silent Majority silent. Inertia is as big an enemy as England was in 1776 and Germany in 1944.
In this new 21st-century battle for America, it is not required to give up our lives at Valley Forge or our limbs on Omaha beach; we are required to give up our time and efforts to influence like-minded fellow Rhode Islanders and to VOTE.
