The first thing about starting anything is to remember to start slow. Whether it’s working out or starting Micro-Activism, it is essential to want to come back and do it again.
Micro-Activism starts with a single act. First, select a candidate for one of your ten $16 donations. Donations are more straightforward as there is no chance of a negative outcome. Starting with a conversation or an activity could result in a negative result and turn you off from the process. A donation is easy and quick.
The next step is to stop and reflect on how this action makes you feel. Reflect on the fact that you are now part of a process that goes back over two hundred years. With this small act, you have made a difference. You are now part of a team working toward a common goal. Think about how the world would change if you were successful. At this point, you should feel pretty good and deservedly so because you have just changed the world.
Finally, start considering your next move. Look over the list; maybe it’s another donation. Or, perhaps it will be a “time” contribution. Whatever you decide, plan for it, anticipate it, and execute it. You will get those same feelings each time you act because you’ll be changing the world to how you want it. You will be taking control and making a difference.
